Delivering a blow to West Bengal Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee, the protesting junior doctors on Friday (14 June) rejected Banerjee's proposal for talks at the state secretariat.
The doctors have stuck to their stand that Banerjee would have to herself come down to NRS Medical College and Hospital and listen to their grievances plus apologise to them for having cast aspersions on them, reports Mint.
Thereafter the state government deferred the talks to 5 pm on Saturday (15 June), so as to give time to the senior doctors to persuade the young medicos to attend the meeting.
"We will again come on Saturday. if they (junior doctors) send their representatives there will be a meeting. The Chief Minister wants a quick resolution of the issue. She has given her proposals," said Dr Mukherjee.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
