Pakistan high commissioner Abdul Basit
Pakistan’s high commissioner to India Abdul Basit met the Chinese ambassador to India Luo Zhaohui on Wednesday and is known to have sought a meeting with Bhutan's ambassador to India Vetsop Namgyel, Times of India has reported.
According to the daily, the situation at Doklam, where Indian troops have physically prevented the Chinese from constructing a road and changing the status quo at the Sikkim-Tibet-Bhutan tri-junction, was discussed in the meeting.
Basit, who has completed his tenure as high commissioner and is expected to return to Islamabad next month, is likely to meet Bhutan's ambassador soon.
China is actively engaging the international community on the ongoing stand-off. On 18 July, China briefed foreign diplomats in Beijing and conveyed that its troops will not wait for an indefinite period and that their patience may run out soon. According to the Indian Express, the diplomatic community in Beijing has conveyed this message to their Indian counterparts in China and Bhutanese counterparts in New Delhi.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
