In a move that could further boost the nation’s fight against the coronavirus pandemic, Dr Reddy's Laboratories is in talks with the government to bring Russia's single-dose Sputnik Light COVID-19 vaccine into the country, reports Mint.
The development was reportedly shared by a spokesperson of the Hyderabad-based company. Notably, this single-dose vaccine has already been approved in Russia and trials are ongoing in many countries.
Besides, Dr Reddy is already in talks with the government and other private players for the supply of a two-dose Russian Sputnik V vaccine, the third jab to get approval from the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) for emergency use, in the country. The company expects the commercial launch of the vaccine in the middle of next month.
Earlier this week it was reported that the government is hopeful of a speedy launch of a single-dose COVID-19 vaccine in India, and all stakeholders, including the Russian manufacturer and its Indian partners, have been directed to fast-track the application and regulatory approval procedures for the jab to boost the country's vaccination drive.
The report stated that an application seeking regulatory approval for Sputnik Light is expected to be filed in the next couple of weeks and if approved it could become the first single-dose vaccine to be launched in the country.
Additionally, the government is also looking to ramp up domestic manufacturing of vaccines, including those made by Serum Institute and Bharat Biotech, among other Indian manufacturers currently in various stages of their vaccine production.
