After a series of speculation regarding change of venue of the Aero India 2019, Ministry of Defence confirmed that the biennial show will be hosted by Bengaluru reports The New Indian Express.

“The Government has decided to hold the Aero India 2019 in Bengaluru from 20-24 February 2019. The Department of Defence Production is committed to make this a successful and result oriented show." A statement of Ministry of Defence (MoD) said on Saturday (8 September).

The matter had earlier heated up as Karnataka Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leaders had lobbied to keep the show in Bengaluru, despite a public request to the Defence Minister by Uttar Pradesh (UP) CM Yogi Adityanath to organise the event in his state.

The places being considered for the show included Hindon airbase near Ghaziabad, Naliya airbase in Bhuj and Bakshi Ka Talab airbase in Lucknow. The UP government had reportedly started preparing the airbase to host the show.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had added to the suspense when she said that many cities had requested to host the show. She had also refused to commit on dates or the venue.

“Besides global leaders and big investors in the aerospace industry, the show will also see participation by think-tanks from across the world. Besides giving fillip to the domestic aviation industry it would further the cause of Make in India," said the MoD statement.
