Claiming that they were misinformed about the part-time nature of their course, Delhi Technological University (DTU) students from the B.Tech evening course are up in arms demanding their course be converted into a full-time programme, reports Times of India. The students have cited poor employment prospects after a part-time course as the reason.

Previously, the evening course was only available to diploma-holders and candidates who had work experience. These requirements were changed after it was found out that students were using fake documents to gain admission.

Students of the course only became aware of the part-time nature of the course after filing RTIs in June and September. While the response to first RTI said that the course was full time, but the second RTI revealed that it was only a part-time course of a four year duration.

Students claim that neither the prospectus nor any other documents gave them information that the course was part-time. Delhi Education Minister met with the students to discuss the issue and has promised to help them out.

University officials asserted that they will hold talks with the students and sort the matter out amicably. They also clarified that the phrase ‘part-time’ will not be written on the students’ degrees.
