The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed Delhi University (DU) colleges to begin the process of sanctioning additional posts on account of accommodating OBC reservations, reports The Hindu.

The joint secretary of the UGC wrote to the principals of DU colleges on Monday (15 July) instructing them to prepare five-minute presentation justifying the additional posts. They need to be presented before an expert committee at the end of July.

While welcoming the move, the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) deemed it not to be enough. DUTA has demanded to increase the number of allocated posts immediately to accommodate the expansion on account of reservations for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS).

The union has also called for teachers to strike work till the additional posts are sanctioned. The protest demanding EWS reservation would be held at the North Campus. Further the DUTA has called for contracts of all ad hoc teachers to be renewed before the academic session starts on 20 July.
