Earthquake With Magnitude 5.8 On The Richter Scale Hits North India

An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter Scale struck north India with its epicenter at Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand at 10.33 pm (local time) today (6 February). Tremors have been reported as far as the National Capital Region, 380 km away,
Locals have reported that the tremors were strong, which resulted in chaos during evacuation. No damage to life has been reported so far. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) estimates the depth of the earthquake to be 14.2km.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has asked for the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to be on high alert.
The Home Minister’s Office (HMO) stated that the ministry was closely monitoring the situation in all the affected states. NDRF teams were dispatched to Uttarakhand from Ghaziabad near Delhi to aid with any rescue and relief operations, if the need arose.
