Eight Karnataka Districts To Reap Benefits From Modi Government’s City Gas Distribution Project

On Thursday (22 November), Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched City Gas Distribution projects across 63 places in India. Among these, eight districts are in Karnataka.
Districts chosen in the state are Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Ballari, Gadag, Bidar, Chitradurga, Davanagere and Ramanagara, Bangalore Mirror has reported. Some of the agencies that will be managing the gas supply include Adani Gas Limited, Bharat Gas Resources Limited, Unison Enviro Private Limited and Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited.
Chief General Manager of GAIL Gas Limited Vivek Wathodkar said, “CGD project of Dakshina Kannada district will supply compressed natural gas for the transport sector, PNG for households, and commercial units. The project will cover 4861 sq km and will include five areas — Bantwal, Belthangady, Mangaluru, Puttur and Sullia.”
The City Gas Distribution (CGD) network is being built in order to supply gas for domestic, commercial and industrial uses. Under the provisions of Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) Act of 2006, the Central government has constituted the PNGRB in order for the body to behave as a sectoral regulator. Furthermore, PNGRB has plans to execute the development of the CGD networks.
