End Of A Bitter Battle: Congress Elevates Sidhu As The Party's State Unit President

In what is likely to put an end to the long-drawn battle between Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu and Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Amarinder Singh, the Congress party yesterday (18 July) appointed Sidhu as the new president of the party's state unit, reports Hindustan Times.
The party is said to have worked out a formula where-in Sidhu has been elevated as the chief of the party's state unit, while Singh will continue to be the CM face for the upcoming election which are scheduled for early 2022.
It should be noted that Singh had personally met with Sonia Gandhi last week. Thereafter, on Friday (16 July), Gandhi had also met with the party's general secretary in-charge of Punjab Harish Rawat and Sidhu. Following the meeting, Rawat had said that there is no question of replacing Singh as the CM face for upcoming elections.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that Singh was not in favour of Sidhu's elevation to the party president's post in the State. In a letter to Gandhi, Singh had emphasised that elevating a Jat Sikh to the post would upset senior leaders representing the Hindu community.
