Over 50 news channels from different parts of the country have come together to form the News Broadcasters Federation (NBF)- the largest-ever federation of news channels, Exchange 4 Media reports. Media houses like Republic Media Network and Asianet News Network are among the founding 50 members of the federation.
The body will represent broadcasters from all languages in India and will be the first news federation in the country to not be centred out of New Delhi. The centre said it is delighted to see more than 50 channels coming together to form the NBF.
The minister added he is confident that the NBF will become a platform to hold discussions relevant to the TV news industry. “I also hope that NBF gives its recommendations and ensures discipline in broadcasting where truth does not become a casualty. I wish the NBF all the very best,” he adds.
The formation of the NBF is historic because it is the first time in Indian broadcasting that a group of various regional and national broadcasters have come together, and formed a body representing the combined interests and perspective on matters associated with the news broadcasting industry
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
