Executive editor and anchor of business news channel ET Now, Supriya Shrinate has announced on Twitter that she will be stepping down from her position at the channel and will be contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Maharajganj constituency in Uttar Pradesh on a Congress ticket.
Late father of Supriya Shrinate, Congress politician Harsh Vardhan, had been elected from the same constituency two times.
Supriya Shrinate will be replacing the Congress’s previously announced candidate for the constituency, Tanushree Tripathi, who is the daughter of murder-convicted politician Amarmani Tripathi.
This is not the first time the Congress has fielded a well-known journalist as a candidate for Parliament. As per media reports, the party had previously nominated journalist Kumar Ketkar to the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra.
Ketkar had been a well known name in the Marathi-language media, but was accused of having a pro-Congress slant in his news coverage.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
