Twelve people were killed after a gunman, identified as 28-year-old Marine Corps veteran Ian David Long opened discriminate fire in a bar in Thousand Oaks, California late Wednesday night, the CNN has reported.

Long first shot a young female cashier and went on to fire at least 30 rounds from a .45 caliber Glock with extended magazines into the crowd, killing 12 and injuring 21.

Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks, California is a popular hangout for college students. About 100 people were reportedly inside the bar at the time of the shooting.

US President Trump took to Twitter offering his condolences and informed that “fully briefed on the terrible shooting in California.”

“Great bravery shown by police,” he said. “God bless all of the victims and families of the victims. Thank you to Law Enforcement.”

Among the victims in the mass shooting was Sgt. Ron Helus, a deputy with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, and 11 people who were attending a college night event at the bar.

Helus, a 29-year veteran of the sheriff’s office, was one of the first officers at the scene. He was shot multiple times and died in the hospital from his injuries. He was one year short of retirement.
