Exam-Phobia? Over 3.12 Lakh Students Skip X, XII Boards In UP Amidst Strict Regulations Against Cheating

According to data made available by UP Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, over 3,12,844 candidates have skipped the High School and Intermediate exam this year in the state, reports Hindustan Times (HT).
Out of them, over 2.72 lakh candidates skipped their paper on day 3 (12 January) of the UP Board examinations.
“On Tuesday, 2,72,452 students did not turn up to write their exam. This is the highest number of students who skipped the paper on a single day this year. Prior to this, 40,392 students had skipped the UP Board exam on its second day on Friday. In all, 3,12,844 students stayed away from the Board exam this year. This number may further go up as compilation of figures from 75 districts is still on,” said Neena Srivastava, secretary, UP Board to HT.
Srivastava added that there could be multiple reasons for such a large number of students staying away from Board exams.
Tough measures were enacted to check copying and keep fake students away from appearing in the examinations. “Along with CCTV cams, we have introduced voice recorder system to put an end to use of unfair means in the exam,” she noted.
Stricter Measures At CBSE Schools
It was earlier reported on 13 February that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had directed schools to adopt a slew of measures, ranging from limiting the number of students in a class to 24 to frisking them prior to the exams, with the aim of conducting Class X and XII board examinations in a smooth manner.
