Expect CPI-CPI(M) Merger In A Few Years: Sudhakar Reddy

Two of the country’s major communist parties that parted ways five decades ago may soon join hands. The Communist Part of India (CPI) general secretary Sudhakar Reddy has said that the CPI expects to merge itself with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) – CPI(M) in the next four to five years. The larger of the two parties, the CPI(M) had split from the CPI in 1964, nearly four decades after it had been formed.
Terming the reasons for the split as ‘irrelevant’, Reddy told PTI reporters, “ It (the unification) should happen; otherwise both the parties will suffer. We have a feeling that the Left movement is in difficulty these days so there is no necessity for duplication of work by the two parties, doing same type of work”.
