Faced With Funds Crunch, Jaganmohan Reddy Considers Scrapping Amaravati Administrative Capital Plans

With a heavy debt burden accumulating over the state's exchequer, the Chief Minister (CM) Y S Jaganmohan Reddy's administration is believed to be contemplating dropping the administrative capital project for Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh, reports The Times of India.
The administrative capital plan includes five multi-floor towers, Assembly building and a Raj Bhavan. Of the five multi-floor towers, four were planned to have 45 floors each, while one was slated to have 50 floors. The tower with 50 floors was set to have the chief minister's office besides the secretariat.
Since coming to power at the helm of the state, Reddy has suspended construction works which were yet to begin, and has also stopped works which were less than 50 per cent complete. The rest of the projects though were permitted to continue.
Indicating his inclination to not scrap the plan, CM Reddy said, "The five buildings at Velagapudi are enough for the secretariat and the one building for the Assembly. What is the need for another set of buildings for the same purpose, when there is no money?"
