On Thursday afternoon (30 January) sensational news emerged from Delhi when a shooter was caught on camera allegedly targeting anti-CAA protesters near the Jamia Milia Islamia University. One individual has been injured in the attack.

The shooter was also captured on camera wielding a gun while walking backwards as a horde of media and camera persons can be seen capturing the footage.

Soon after the shooter fired a shot, he was apprehended by a sea of cops who snatched away his weapon and pushed him in a waiting vehicle. All this while he was being followed by journalists who urge the cops to give them better “shots” of the shooter.

As he was being placed in the vehicle, a journalist asked him his name, and his response was interpreted as “Rambhakt Gopal” by various media persons and outlets, which even declared it to be his actual name.

Now as it turns out, the actual name of the shooter is not Rambhakt but “Ram Bhagat” which sounds similar to the former.

Journalist Raj Sekhar Jha while quoting Delhi police sources revealed that “Rambhakt” is not mentioned in the shooter’s identity documents and his family is being contacted to verify the same.

Also as per Firspost and ANI reports, the name of the shooter is actually “Ram Bhagat Gopal Sharma” and he is said to be a resident of Greater Noida’s Jewar.

The shooter is initially said to have yelled his name as “Rambhakt” Gopal prior to his detention and cops are suspicious as to how he said so in a frenzy.

He has now also claimed that he is a juvenile and the cops are ascertaining the same before putting him under arrest. He is currently being questioned under detention.
