Fairwood Group To Build World’s Largest Electric Transport Network In UAE Under Make In India

Noida-based Fairwood Group has announced its foray into the personal rapid transit (PRT) manufacturing and construction sector. ULTra Fairwood (UF), a joint-venture between Fairwood and the ULTra Group of UK will construct the world’s largest PRT project in Ajman City in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The capex value of the core project is estimated to be $881 million while the systems would cost $723 million.

The system is set to be the world’s largest network of autonomous electric vehicles. The vehicles themselves will be manufactured by UF in India for use across the globe. , along with its partners, recently signed an agreement with the Government of Ajman (UAE) to implement the system in Ajman City.

The entire system will consist of both personal rapid transit (PRT) systems that can carry upto six passengers per vehicle and group rapid transit (GRT) systems that can carry upto 30 passengers per vehicle. It will be 76 km long with 1,745 vehicles serving 115 stations carrying 1.64 million trips per day.

UF had earlier proposed to build a PRT system in Amrtisar connecting the Golden Temple, but the project was scrapped in favour of a Bus Rapid Transit Systen (BRTS).
