The protesting Samyukta Kisan Morcha has decided to take the ongoing protests to Uttar Pradesh after six months of protesting at the Delhi borders. The movement has been given a name -- “Mission Uttar Pradesh.”

The decision to protest against the agricultural laws has come at a time when the Yogi Adityanath government is putting up a fight against Covid. The state will go to the assembly poll in 2022.

Hannan Mollah, All India Kisan Sabha general secretary has been quoted saying: “Defeating BJP is the only way out since Prime Minister Narendra Modi seems to only understand electoral loses (sic).”

Under their decision to take the protests to UP, maha-panchayats will be held across the state and mobilise farmers with the slogan to defeat BJP. “We are not asking them to vote for any party as that is the individual choice of the farmers… ours is a political movement against the draconian laws but not a partisan movement," Mollah has been quoted saying.

BKU leader Rakesh Tikait is reported to have said that farmers have a firm resolve to continue with the movement. He added, "...and the government should not be under any misconception that it will fizzle out… it will only get stronger.”

The movement is going to UP after the recently held panchayat election results. BJP's performance seems to have inspired the farmers to press the resistance further, a report says.

The leaders have said that both western and eastern UP are responding to their movement and this is a good reason to take their protest to the state.

The leaders have campaigned in states where BJP was contesting polls.
