In a major fillip for the already growing adoption of electronic toll collection across the nation, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has now decided to mandate the use of FASTags for all the four-wheelers across the nation from 1 January onwards, reports Economic Times.
The MoRTH had issued a notification for the same yesterday (7 November). Before this, the Ministry had mandated FASTags for the registration of all new four-wheeler vehicles supplied by the manufacturers and their dealers. This had come into effect on 1 December 2017 itself.
The move comes, as the Government is aiming to ensure seamless movement of vehicles through the toll plazas by building on the progress achieved under the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) programme under which FASTags operate.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
