Feroz Shah Kotla To Become Arun Jaitley Stadium: DDCA Changes Name In Honour Of Its Former President

Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium is set to be renamed as the Arun Jaitley Stadium by the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) in the memoir of the former president who passed away on Saturday (24 August), The Times of India reports.

The stadium will be renamed on 12 September during a function naming a stand after Indian skipper Virat Kohli, which was announced earlier. The function will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and will be attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju.

DDCA president Rajat Sharma said: “It was Arun Jaitley’s support and encouragement that players like Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Ashish Nehra, Rishabh Pant and many others could make India proud.”

Arun Jaitley was said to be an ardent cricket fan as well as a good wisher of the Indian cricket and the game. Jaitley was a member of the DDCA from 1997 and held the President post of the association for 13 years from 1999. Jaitley also held the post of the vice president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a while in 2013.

During his tenure, Jaitley ensured the stadium got renovated the stadium, brought in modern facilities, increased capacity of the stadium and constructed world-class dressing rooms.
