According to Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, Dilbag Singh, after the revocation of article 370, the number of local Kashmiri youths picking up guns has gone down significantly, reports Hindustan Times.

DGP Singh said, “I told the media in Kashmir just yesterday that 240 to 250 militants are active in Kashmir as per a list with us. Their number has come down considerably but what is positive and appreciable is the fact that local youth are not picking up guns compared to what had been the practice. Only a few youths have picked up guns.”

Singh also stressed that the skill development programmes set up by the government to bring back such misguided youth to the national mainstream have also played a vital role and sports has also given a major push.

After the revocation of article 370, and the creation of two union territories out of the erstwhile state of J&K, the violence in the valley has decreased and security forces are going full steam for “Operation All Out” which aims to neutralise remaining terrorists.

Though our forces are getting very good results in Kashmir, frequent ceasefire violations by Pakistan have also increased on the borders which is a tactic used to push maximum terrorists into the region.

However, the top cop in Jammu and Kashmir said that the security forces are fully prepared to thwart all their attempts and the border grid is very strict which led to the elimination of three Jaish terrorists in Nagrota recently.
