The Election Commission finally announced the official results tally of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls today (24 May) after all the winners of 542 constituencies were declared.

As per the final tally, the BJP won on a record 303 seats while the Rahul Gandhi led Congress party came a distant second with 52 seats. The DMK came third with 23 seats and YSR Congress, Trinamool were joint fourth with 22 seats.

Notably, regional parties like the TDP, JD(S) and the RJD fared poorly in the polls. TDP won three seats, JD(S) just one and RJD scored a duck for the first time in the party’s history.

Naveen Patnaik led BJD decided to hold its ground in Odisha with 12 seats, BSP ended up with 10 and the SP which allied with the former for Uttar Pradesh, won just five seats.

BJP’s allies Shiv Sena and JD(U) who would be part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) fared well. Shiv Sena won 18 seats while the JD(U) won 16.

AAP which had tried to ally with the Congress in states like Delhi, Haryana and Punjab managed to win just one seat,
