Popularly known as ‘Singham’ of Karnataka Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Bengaluru South) K Annamalai resigned from his post on Tuesday (28 May) fuelling speculation that he might join politics, reports Indian Express.

A native of Karur in Tamil Nadu, Annamalai is a 2011-batch Karnataka cadre IPS officer.

Annamalai, through a public letter, expressed his gratitude to his friends and well-wishers. The letter went viral on social media. His political entry is being intensely speculated, and the same was confirmed by his colleague D Roopa who also congratulated him for his bold decision.

Annamalai, in his letter, said that his decision to quit the service was a well thought one and the death of Madhukar Shetty, a Karnataka cadre IPS officer, made him re-examine his own life. The Former DCP also said that his visit to Kailash Manasarovar was also an eye-opener for him.
