The five-party alliance cobbled together by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and headed by the National People's Party (NPP) is set to form a government in Meghalaya, News18 has reported.
NPP chief Conrad Sangma met the Governor earlier today and staked claim to form a government. The alliance has 34 MLAs - 19 from NPP, six from the United Democratic Party, four from the People's Democratic Front, two from the BJP, two from the Hill State People's Democratic Party. An independent lawmaker has also joined the coalition. The halfway mark in the state assembly is 30.
The swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place at 10.30 am on 6 March.
The Congress has suffered a fate similar to Goa and Manipur despite emerging as the single largest party in the state.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
