Flipkart Joins Hands With Telangana Govt For 'Medicines From The Sky' Project To Deliver Medical Supplies Using Drones

E-commerce behemoth Flipkart has joined hands with the Telangana government to lead a consortium tasked with the development and execution of the "Medicines from the Sky" project under which medical supplies will be delivered to remote areas via drones, reports Livemint.
The project has been conceived by the World Economic Forum (WEF) and Healthnet Global Limited. Telangana government has adopted the framework developed by the two to implement drones for last-mile delivery. It plans to integrate drones into the state's healthcare supply chain.
As part of the consortium, Flipkart will deploy drones and enable deliveries of vaccines and medical supplies. These efforts will be complemented with technologies such as geo-mapping, routing of shipments and track and trace of location etc, developed by Flipkart over the years.
As per a statement by Flipkart, the company will be using a combination of the aforementioned technologies to conduct "Beyond Visual Line of Sight" (BCLOS) deliveries in remote areas of the state where road infrastructure is not conducive for the fast delivery of vaccines.
