Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla Set To Visit Nepal Amid Border Row, To Hold Several High-Profile Meetings

Days after visits by Research & Analysis Wing (R&AW)'s chief Samant Goel and Indian Army's Chief General MM Naravane, now Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla is set to visit Nepal as the two countries try to improve the bilateral relations amid ongoing tensions, reports Hindustan Times.

Shringla will be visiting Nepal later this month for a formal dialogue between the two countries. He will be spending two days in Nepal from 26-27 November, during which he will be holding a number of scheduled meetings.

Shringla is set to hold meetings with his counterpart Bharat Raj Paudyal and Nepal's Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali.

During the visit, Shringla will also meet Nepalese President Bidhya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli.

It is expected that during the visit, the two countries will finalise the schedule for the meeting of the Joint Technical Level Boundary Committee. India could also commit to helping Nepal with COVID-19 vaccines once the production starts. The two countries are also likely to discuss the revival of the Pancheshwar multi-purpose project on Mahakali river.

It should be noted that the visit gains much significance as India had been holding off on Shringla’s visit for most of this year to convey its disgruntlement with the Nepalese government’s move to issue a new political map that included a slice of land including the Indian territories of Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh and Kalapani.
