Former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj Cremated With Full State Honours

Former external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj was cremated with full state honours on Wednesday (7 August) in presence of her family, well wishers and top political leaders.

The last rites were performed by her daughter Bansuri at the Lodhi crematorium in Delhi. Those present at the funeral included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and veteran BJP leader L K Advani.

Earlier in the day, her body was taken to the BJP headquarters for party workers to pay their tributes.

Swaraj passed away yesterday evening (6 August) after suffering a cardiac arrest, she was 67.

She was a seven time member of parliament served as the External Affairs Minister in the NDA-1 government. She was known for her humanitarian approach as a Minister and was hailed for helping countless Indians in distress throughout her tenure.

She had scripted history by becoming the youngest state cabinet minister at the age of 25.

Swaraj had announced last November that she would not be contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
