Former Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel Takes Oath As New Madhya Pradesh Governor

Former Gujarat Chief Minister (CM) and senior Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Anandiben Patel was sworn in as the new Madhya Governor today (23 January) taking over from Ramnaresh Yadav who retired in September 2016.

Patel had succeeded Prime Minster Narendra Modi as the CM of Gujarat, a post she held for two years till August 2016. She was succeeded by the current CM Vijay Rupani under whom BJP won the 2017 state assembly elections.

Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Hemant Gupta administered the oath of office to the Patel at a ceremony held at the Raj Bhawan in Bhopal.

Earlier, Chief Secretary Basant Pratap Singh read out the warrant of appointment issued by President Ram Nath Kovind appointing Patel to the post.

Gujarat Governor Om Prakash Kohli was holding additional charge for Madhya Pradesh since Yadav retired in 2016. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his cabinet colleagues were among the leaders present at the ceremony.
