Former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday (27 October) announced that he will be forming a new political party to fight upcoming assembly elections in the state.

The name and symbol of the Singh's new party will be revealed after the Election Commission clears it.

Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Singh said, "Yes, I will be forming a new party. The name will be announced once the Election Commission clears it, along with the symbol. My lawyers are working on it", reports ANI.

On the issue of farm laws,

Singh resigned last month as the chief minister and had announced that he will be quitting the Congress after months of rift with Congress state chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.

The former Punjab CM further said that the new party will have 'plenty of Congressmen'.

"Once our party is launched, we will fight all 117 seats; will it be adjustment seats or on our own...only time will tell," Sing was quoted by Economic Times as saying.

Singh also attacked Sidhu and said that his party will field candidate against him.

"Ever since Sidhu joined, there has been a drop in Congress' popularity. We will fight Navjot Singh Sidhu where ever he contests from," he said.

Amarinder Singh also said that he would be meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday (28 October) regarding issues concerning the state.
