Four Grenade Explosions Rock Assam On Republic Day; Police Suspect ULFA-I Hand

Four grenades were exploded at different locations in upper Assam region at a time when the nation was celebrating its 71st Republic Day on Sunday (26 January).
The attacks are suspected to be carried out by United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) (ULFA-I) militants. However, none of the blasts has born any casualties so far.
According to Assam police, three of the explosions took place in Dibrugarh, while one blast happened in Charaideo district. In Dibrugarh district, a blast took place in the oil town of Duliajan, while two explosions happened at Graham Bazar and at a gurudwara on A T Road - both under Dibrugarh police station.
In Charaideo district, the grenade exploded at Teok Ghat under Sonari police station.
The police has suspected the Myanmar-based anti-talk ULFA-I militants for the attacks. The only active militant group in Assam has called for a dawn-to-dusk general strike in the state.
