Betting big on India's prospects and the performance of its capital markets, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have invested a massive Rs 47,334 crore in Indian in August so far on a net basis, reports Financial Express.

Of the total sum, a whopping Rs 46,602 crore of FPI driven investments have flown into the equity segment, while a total of Rs 732 crore has been drawn to the debt segment.

This comes as a massive jump over the previous two months. In June and July months, the net fund inflows from FPIs stood at Rs 24,053 crore and Rs 3,301 crore respectively.

It should be noted that since April this year, FPIs have invested into Indian markets more than Rs 80,000 crore, more than half of which has come in in the ongoing month of August alone.

This also gains significance as FPIs over the last week emerged as net sellers across most emerging markets, except in India and South Korea. On a month to date and calendar year to date basis as well, the FPIs have been sellers in most emerging markets, with India emerging as an exception.
