India’s prospective attempt to secure a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has received support from France, who will be a major stakeholder in the process, ANI has reported.

Florence Parley is the Defence Minister in Emmanuel Macron’s cabinet and she asserted, “France supports India's candidacy for (permanent seat) in the UNSC” during the induction of the Rafale fighter aircraft in the Ambala airbase.

As of now, India has been elected as one of the non-permanent members in the UNSC. Speaking on that development, Parley mentioned that such an occurrence “represents an opportunity to promote international peace and security together.”

During the event, Parley further focused on the relations between the two countries and also stressed on France’s involvement and support to the ‘Make in India’ movement.

“The Make in India has been a reality for the French industry for several years particularly for defence equipment such as submarines. Many French companies and design offices are now established in India and I hope that others will offer their support and services,” she quipped.

The Minister heaped praise on Rafale, mentioning that the military aircraft has donned important role in Mali to destroy armed terror groups. She also underlined France’s determination to respect the delivery deadline irrespective of the ongoing pandemic. Parley ensured that they will supply the remaining 31 jets as soon as possible.
