In fresh violence in Manipur, a 29-year-old man was shot dead, while two others were injured in a separate incident, in the Bishnupur district on Wednesday (24 May).

Curfew relaxation in Bishnupur, Imphal East, and Imphal West has been revoked by district authorities as a result.

The curfew was previously relaxed from 5 am to 4 pm.

Armed youths raided villages in Bishnupur district's Moirang, resulting in a bullet striking Toijam Chandramani.

Chandramani died from the injury after being rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

After his death, the area became more tense and more police and paramilitary personnel were sent to manage the situation.

Police reported a house fire in Bishnupur's Phoubakchao and a subsequent retaliation where four houses were burned, on Tuesday night (23 May).

Since 3 May, 11 of 16 districts in Manipur have faced ethnic violence, resulting in an indefinite curfew and internet service suspension with daily sporadic incidents of violence.

Military forces are present in 23 high-risk police station areas across 11 districts in Assam, including the Army, Assam Rifles, and Territorial Army.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, also in charge of the Home portfolio, requested additional central force companies to address violence in certain regions.

Thus far, 71 people have died, 300 injured (including police), almost 1,700 houses burnt, and over 200 vehicles destroyed due to the violence.
