Tamil actor Joseph Vijay could be next in the long list of actors turned politicians in Tamil Nadu. The actor has hinted at his entry into politics in an elaborate speech which surprised his fans during the audio launch of his movie Sarkar held at Sairam Engineering College in Chennai on Tuesday.

When asked by the anchor if he would be playing the role of a chief minister in the film he replied in the negative. He was then asked if he had any plans to become the chief minister in reality. He responded with a statement which gave out subtle hints of his possible entry into politics in the future.

“If I become the Chief Minister, then I won’t just act like one, but will do my job with sincerity,” he replied, as reported by TNM. The actor also said that he would root out corruption in the state if he did become CM someday.

Vijay made another politically bold statement saying that “People will contest in the elections to form the government but we have already formed our sarkar (government) and now we are going to contest in the elections.”

His fans, meanwhile, erupted into loud cheers.

Vijay later clarified that he was talking only about his film and not politics.

Tamil Nadu has a long list of famous personalities who have transitioned from acting to politics with varying degrees of success. MG Ramachandran, political observers have said, revolutionised the way cinema could be used to influence politics. Tamil superstars like Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth are hoping to cash their popularity by taking a political plunge.
