Gearing For A Bumper Harvest This Year, Haryana Allows Inter-State Trading In Mustard Using e-NAM Platform

Haryana will become the first state in the region to allow its mustard farmers to sell their produce in other states using e-NAM (National Agricultural Market), reports The Tribune.
“Mustard will be harvested in Haryana by next month. To start with, we are targeting to facilitate inter-state trading in mustard by February-end followed by other crops,” said Haryana State Agriculture Marketing Board’s chief marketing enforcement officer, Raj Kumar Beniwal.
Mustard production in Haryana is expected to touch a record high of 50-60 lakh quintals spread over 13 lakh acres. On the other hand, the state produced only around 35 lakh quintals last year (2018).
Haryana initiated the process of connecting mandis to e-NAM in April 2016 and till date, it has connected 54 mandis with the platform. The state has obtained centre's approval to connect 27 more mandis. While the state has a total 113 mandis, over 20 lakh farmers are registered on the platform.

In 2016, PM Modi launched e-NAM, a pan-India electronic trading portal which networks the existing APMC mandis to create a unified national market for agricultural commodities.
The NAM Portal provides a single window service for all APMC related information and services. This includes commodity arrivals and prices, buy and sell trade offers, provision to respond to trade offers, among other services.
