PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah (PTI)
In a significant development, European Parliamentarians, activists and journalists hailing from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and the Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Monday (2 March) lauded India's decision to abrogate Article 370 of the Constitution, reports ANI.
The development took place in Switzerland's Geneva during a discussion on the subject, "Jammu and Kashmir: Sifting facts from fiction". The discussion was held on the sidelines of the ongoing 43rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
A woman activist from Kashmir Valley, Syed Tehmeena explained the importance of the de-operationalisation of Article 370 for Kashmiri women as she asserted, "A Kashmiri girl who will marry outside Kashmir will now not lose her property rights. A Kashmiri woman who married outside Kashmir in the past, she and her children were not having the right to own property in Kashmir. Now they can buy a land and house, which is her right."
Further slamming the Islamic Republic of Pakistan led by Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan Niazi, Tehmeena underscored that India's neighbour has no right to interfere in the Kashmir issue, rather it should work to improve its own legislation and government system.
