German Court Starts Trial Of Indian Couple Who Allegedly Spied On Khalistani, Kashmiri Separatists For RAW

A German court in Frankfurt has begun the trial of an Indian couple, 50-year-old Manmohan S and his wife 51-year-old Kanwaljit K over accusations of gathering intelligence about Kashmiri and Khalistani separatist groups active in the country, reports Deutsche Welle.
The formal charge against the two is carrying out ‘foreign secret service activity’ in the country. It is claimed that Manmohan procured information about said groups in beginning from January 2015 and then relayed the same to the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) via the Indian Consulate in Frankfurt.
Kanwaljit is also charged with assisting her husband beginning from July 2017. Prosecutors claim that the couple were renumerated with €7,200 (approximately Rs 5,72,000).
Under German law, the couple can be imprisoned for up to 10 years if found guilty.
The presence of Khalistani operatives in Germany has been well known since at least 2010, when two members of the banned Khalistan Zindabad Force outfit were arrested in Frankfurt over a plot to kill the head of the Radha Soami organisation.
