United States (US) Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has sharply criticised the call from Greta Thunberg, the radical student climate activist from Sweden, to divest from fossil fuels, Reuters reported.

Addressing a press conference with Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Mnuchin when asked about Thunberg’s recommendation to divest from fossil fuels responded “Is she the chief economist? ... After she goes and studies economics in college, she can come back and explain that to us.”

Projected by her supporters as a young environmental crusader, the 17-year old Thunberg now enjoys a global celebrity status. She was even named Time magazine's “Person of the Year”.

Last September, Thunberg said that talking to US Donald Trump at the United Nations General Assembly in New York City would have been a waste of time.

Trump and Thunberg also “sparred indirectly” at the WEF. After Trump said the US had committed to joining the one trillion tree initiative, Thunberg hit back saying that fixing the climate crisis was not only about trees.
