Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (8 April) received the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in New Delhi.

PM Modi had earlier received the first jab of Bharat Biotech's Covaxin on 1 March, after the vaccination was rolled out for people above 60 years of age and those above 45 with comorbidities.

"Got my second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at AIIMS today," PM Modi said in a tweet on Thursday (8 April).

"Vaccination is among the few ways we have, to defeat the virus," he added.

PM Modi also appealed to all those who are eligible for vaccine to get vaccinated soon.

It should be noted that from 1 April, all those above 45 years of age are eligible to receive the vaccine under India's Covid-19 vaccination drive that began on 16 January this year.

In the first phase of the vaccination drive, the healthcare workers and frontline workers were vaccinated against Covid-19 virus. The second phase of the vaccination began on 1 March.
