Given Triple Talaq, Locked In Room, Starved And Tortured For A Month, UP Woman Loses Battle For Life
Razia
Razia, a triple talaq victim who was tortured by her husband for over a month, died on Tuesday.
Razia was confined in a room, kept without food and water for days, and was thrashed by her husband. She died while one family was taking her to a hospital, as per reports.
A native of Swale Nagar in Bareilly district, Razia was married a local man named Naeem in 2005. But Naeem allegedly tortured her for dowry and demanded a car, as per a report by Patrika. After years of torture, Razia came to her maiden house two months ago. The couple has a six-year-old son named Anas.
An angry Naeem gave her unilateral divorce under Shariah law over the phone. But days later, he went to Razia’s maiden house and convinced her to return to his house.
However, he locked Razia in a room and allegedly tortured her. When her family came to know about what’s happening to their daughter, they got Razia admitted to a district hospital. As per a Dainik Jagran report, Razia looked emaciated when she was taken out of the room. She eventually died when she was being taken to a bigger hospital in Lucknow.
An organisation called ‘Mera Haq’, which had helped Razia’s family provide her medical treatment, told the media that they would continue to fight for justice. Till her death, Razia kept saying that she wanted to live for her son Anas, who too was kept starved by her husband, and wanted to see her husband punished for his crimes, the organisation told the media.
