Global Covid-19 Tally Rises To Over 2.60 Crore, Death Toll Increases To 8.63 Lakh

The overall number of global coronavirus cases has increased to over 2.60 crore mark, while the deaths have risen to 8.63 lakh, according to the Johns Hopkins University.

As of Thursday (3 September) evening, the total number of cases stood at 2,60,56,777 and the fatalities rose to 8,63,577, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update.

As many as 1,73,12,020 people have recovered from the disease globally so far.

The US accounted for the world's highest number of infections and fatalities at 6,115,030 and 1,85,752 respectively, according to the CSSE.

Brazil came in the second place with 39,97,865 infections and 1,23,780 deaths.

In terms of cases, India ranks third (38,53,406), and is followed by Russia (10,06,923), Peru (6,57,129), Colombia (6,33,321), South Africa (6,30,595), Mexico (6,10,957), Spain (4,79,554), Argentina (4,39,172), Chile (4,14,739), Iran (3,78,752), the UK (3,40,946), France (3,31,060), Bangladesh (3,19,686), Saudi Arabia (3,17,486), Pakistan (2,97,014), Turkey (2,73,301), Italy (2,71,515), Germany (2,47,628), Iraq (2,42,284) and Philippines (2,28,403), the CSSE figures showed.

The other countries with over 10,000 deaths are the India (67,376), Mexico (65,816), UK (41,602), Italy (35,497), France (30,692), Spain (29,194), Peru (29,068), Iran (21,797), Colombia (20,345), Russia (17,479), South Africa (14,389) and Chile (11,344).
