A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Uttarakhand High Court seeking a ban on the release of the movie ‘Kedarnath’. The petition alleges that the film “misrepresents facts and hurts Hindu sentiments,” Times of India has reported.

According to the report, counsel for the petitioner Avatar Singh Rawat, told the paper that the film depicts “a Muslim boy falling in love with a Hindu girl, and when they fail to unite, both pray to bring upon destruction after which the 2013 floods take place.”

“This is an utter misrepresentation of facts and promotion of love jihad,” stated the PIL.

Citing Skanda Purana, which is an ancient Hindu scripture that gives a detailed account of the history of Shri Kedarnath, the PIL states that the movie is “twisting every truth about the sacred place.”

The movie, which is directed by Abhishek Kapoor features Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan, has been in controversies ever since its trailer released last month.

State’s Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ajendra Ajay, soon after the release of the trailer, had demanded a ban on the movie release and had also written a letter in this regard to the chairman of the censor board Prasoon Joshi.
