Mumbai-based budget carrier GoAir wants increase in flying rights to Thailand in view of increased air passenger traffic to the South-East Asian country, Tribune India has reported.

The airline wants to launch flights to Phuket from from seven more Indian cities, including Chandigarh and Lucknow, Vice President of GoAir (International) Arjun Dasgupta was cited in the report as saying. At present, GoAir has direct flights to Phuket from Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Dasgupta said that government should consider increasing flying rights to South Asian country given the increasing traffic between the two countries. “The airlines of both the countries have almost exhausted their seat quotas, and we are pushing for an increase in flight rights,” Dasgupta was quoted in the report as saying.

Dasgupta, while interacting with journalists at the Thailand Yacht Show at the Royal Phuket Marina (RPM), said GoAir would also be starting services to Thailand’s capital city, Bangkok, as the country is a significant part of the airline's international expansion plans.

According to the report, last month, Thailand’s ambassador to India, Chutintorn Gongsakdi, had said that Indian growth could help in opening up new flights and connections.

Gongsakdi expected as many as 1.7 million Indian tourists to visit Thailand in 2019, a figure which could rise to two million by 2020. Further, he expected the number to grow to 10 million tourists by 2030.
