Soon after toppling Congress president Rahul Gandhi from his own castle Amethi, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Smriti Irani walked 14 km barefoot for darshan in Siddhi Vinayak Mandir in Mumbai, reports Zee News.

Accompanying Smriti was her long-time friend and film producer Ekta Kapoor. It is Ekta’s TV show 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' brought Smriti into the limelight, making her “TV’s favourite bahu”.

Kapoor took to Instagram on Tuesday (28 May) to share a photograph with Irani, “14 km to Siddhi Vinayak ke baad ka glow (the glow after 14 km to Siddhi Vinayak)“. Irani commented: 'God willed it, God is kind.' Ekta then write, "You walked without your shoes! A lot of your will."

Soon after, Smriti defeated Rahul in Amethi by 55,120 votes in, Ekta called her a ‘giant slayer of politics’ and wrote a lyrics out of the famous title track “ Kyunki Saas...." to celebrate the victory.

After reducing Rahul’s winning margin to a little over a lakh in Amethi in the last LS election, Smriti frequented the constituency as a central minister and connected to the masses. Over the course of last five years, Smriti managed to strike deep roots among the voters of Amethi. Sensing the impending defeat, Rahul Gandhi chose to play it safe, contesting from the Muslim dominated constituency of Wayanad in Kerala.
