Having resigned from civil service two weeks back, former Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Shah Faesal today (23 January) announced his entry into the state’s politics.

The move had been widely anticipated, with the state’s former Chief Minister (CM) earlier having welcomed him into politics on the day of his resignation.

Faesal made the announcement via a post on Facebook, while seeking donations for what he called a ‘people’s movement’.

He also made it clear that he will be charting on his political journey independently, dispelling speculations of joining any of the other state’s mainstream parties, including Omar Abdullah’s National Conference.

Having earlier courted controversy for calling the nation ‘Rapistan’, Faesal asked for help from the Indian people and civil society in his post on Facebook.

“My idea is to seek help from the people of India, build alliances with the Indian civil society and intellectual class to humanize the narrative around Kashmir conflict so that lasting peace can be achieved in J&K State,” the post reads.

Faesal, who had topped the UPSC civil services exam in 2009 had announced his decision to quit civil service on 9 January and had blamed the Union government for his decision.
