Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has designed a new app that aims to put an end to the issue of using banned plastic goods in the city. The app is called ‘Plasto Ban’, and it will assist the BBMP in documentation of the raids that officers do from time to time at places where plastic is manufactured or used.

Dr Sandhya, a nodal officer for health and solid waste management at BBMP was quoted by Deccan Herald as saying, “There is a ban on the use of plastic above 40 microns in the city, but many continue to use and sell it to customers. The civic body has already begun raids, but this app will help in documenting the raid, churning out a receipt for the penalty amount and also to document the entire process. The documentation process is important as it helps in keeping a track of whether the offender was penalised before or not. All junior health officers across 198 wards will be given the app. The app will also help in generating the bill of the penalty process.”

Some of the provisions of the app include directions being sent from the commissioner, penalty amount, circulars from Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) etc.
