Google-owned video platform YouTube has acquired Indian video and shopping startup Simsim with the transaction for the same set to be completed in the coming few weeks.

YouTube targets to enable viewers on its platform to discover and purchase products from local businesses through this takeover. However, the finer details of the overall deal haven’t been revealed yet.

Simsim expedites the transition of small businesses to e-commerce via influencer-based videos and there will be no immediate alterations to the application post the deal.

YouTube explained in its official blog post that small businesses have used its platform to enhance their online presence and reach out to customers not belonging to their local community for the previous 15 years.

“By bringing Simsim and YouTube together, our goal is to help small businesses and retailers in India reach new customers in even more powerful ways,” the post further read, according to a report by the Times of India.

This acquisition is another step in Google’s rising investments in the country, like the India Digitization Fund, whilst it gradually works along with its partners to expand the access of the internet over here.
