Tech giant Google has initiated the rollout of a new feature called activity cards, aimed at making it easier for users to resume a previous search thread to continue exploring a topic, reports The Tribune. For now, the feature will only be available to users in the US, while it is unclear when it will be released worldwide.
Google's Product Manager for Search Andrew Moore revealed the news in a blog post, writing, “Activity cards will roll out today on mobile web and the Google app in English in the US.”
With the new feature, when a person types in a query related to a previously searched task, Google will show the user previously visited relevant pages and past queries on a card.
“If you're logged into your Google account and search for topics and hobbies like cooking, interior design, fashion, skincare and beauty, fitness, photography and more, you may find an activity card at the top of the results page that provides easy ways to continue your exploration,” Moore stated.
Users can easily also add or delete things on their activity cards; a page can be added to an activity card collection by simply touching and holding the link (while using Google on a touch screen smartphone).
For deleting an item or switching off a card, the user would need to tap the three-dotted icon.
Google has not yet commented on the possibility of a worldwide release of the feature.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
