Anushka Sharma’s first digital venture Paatal Lok has mixed up in yet another controversy. A Gorkha community group has filed a complaint against Sharma with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) for allegedly using ‘insulting, demeaning and derogatory’ language for a Nepali-speaking woman in the second episode, reports Economic Times.

The All Arunachal Pradesh Gorkha Youth Association on 18 May shared a screen shot of their complaint along with a caption, detailing how the alleged sexist and racial slur malign their identity.

Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh (BhaGoYuP), the youth wing of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, has also filed an online petition demanding that Amazon should mute the slur, blur the subtitles and upload edited video along with an unconditional apology and a disclaimer.

“The series seems to have hurt the community and there is a strong protest on social media by Nepali speaking people against this web series "Paatal Lok" for presenting such an insulting, demeaning and derogatory dialogue,” read the caption.

The petition was addressed to the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry, the Minister Prakash Javadekar, Amazon Prime Video and series producer Sharma.

They argued that the scene would incite racial and sexual slur and rape attempts at women from their community.
