Government Bans Issuing Of Tourist Visas To Foreigners Arriving In India To Participate In Tablighi Activities

Amid the rising number of Coronavirus cases in those who attended the Tabligi Jamaat congregation in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area, the government has decided not to issue any tourist visa to any foreigner who wants to visit India and participate in the Tablighi activities, reports Economic Times.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has been advised by the Home Ministry to requests its missions to refrain from granting tourist visas to such foreigners who are likely to use it for Tablighi activities.

The decision comes as more than 2,100 foreign nationals had arrived in India since 1 January and indulged in Tablighi activities, many of whom have now tested positive of for the Coronavirus.

The Home Ministry has also told the MEA that it should ensure that details regarding the place of stay, return ticket and also financial means to defray expenses in India by such individuals must be examined carefully before the grant of a tourist visa.
